Our Mission
Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity. We’re improving university communities to make sure that no student is held back by their mental health. Every year, on University Mental Health Day, we work with UMHAN, the University Mental Health Advisors Network, to bring people together and change the narrative surrounding student mental health.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed at university. And with 2.86 million students currently studying in UK universities there is an increasing number of students accessing support services, experiencing distress and mental illness, having to leave university due to mental health difficulties, and a tragic number of student deaths by suicide. We believe it doesn’t have to be this way.
We’re challenging the health sector, higher education sector and government to make student mental health a priority, so that students can succeed and thrive. You can help us to do this.

Why get involved?
“No student should be held back by their mental health”, that is our vision and our goal. But our latest research at Student Minds (Feb, 2023) found that:
The “why” then is simple; things don’t have to be this way. As for the how? That’s all of us together we can cause real change. By continuing to make University Mental Health Day bigger and better, working together in practical ways to achieve our mission of making mental health a university-wide priority.
Whilst awareness is increasing, a lot more can be done to address the existing gaps in knowledge, mental health literacy and the support available for students. Join us in being part of that change!
